Electric Area, home to some of the biggest names in the Dance Music industry right now DJs in the industry right now, kicked off their latest series on Sirius XM Radio this past Tuesday night with a live DJ set from Dutch sensation, Afrojack. Appropriately titled “Electric Aquarium”, the series gives Sirius XM listeners the opportunity to enter a contest to see their favorite DJs play an intimate live set in Sirius’ state of the art, glass enclosed “fish bowl” studio.
Nick Van de Wall, better known as Afrojack, recently dubbed 9th best DJ in the world according to DJ MAG, took the decks Tuesday evening for the inaugural event after a brief interview in which he discussed his upcoming release in collaboration with Chris Brown, his personal relationship with Paris Hilton, and his recent event at Revel’s HQ that raised over $75,000 for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. All the contest winners who were highly anticipating their up-close-and-personal opportunity to be part of their favorite DJ’s performance were briefly stalled as a one man headed into the studio, knelt down on one knee and proposed to his fiancé (who coincidentally was named “Annie”?)!
Nick congratulated them in top DJ fashion by opening his set with his latest release and Beatport top 10 charter, “Annie’s Theme”. As the audience filtered in and out of his live 1 hour set he played a variety of tracks from Avicii & Nicky Romero’s “NickTim” to his own hit of 2012 “Rock The House” whilst creatively weaving in vocals from classics such as Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.” and Afrojack classics like “Take Over Control” and Larry Tee’s “Let’s Make Nasty”. We also couldn’t help but notice some new unreleased Afrojack remixes that we hope to see drop in the very near future.
Sirius XM has definitely succeeded in creating world-class live programming and we can’t wait to see what new shows ‘Electric Aquarium’ has in store for us. Next up on the roster is Dirty South and Ferry Corsten so keep your eye out on the Sirius XM Facebook Page to see how you and a friend can win entry into the amazing EDM Fish Bowl.
